MAID - It wouldn't even be up for discussion with the Ball and Chain. And honestly I don't think he would argue with me on this one. Which would be a first!

{2} What is your least favorite household chore?
Cleaning bathrooms. I don't do them. EVER! I thought a few weeks back I would give it a try. You know with it being a new year and all. But I only got half way done, maybe not even that far, and walked out. They are gross, smell, and I don't pee on the seat or the rim. So why should I clean them??

{3} What is your least loathed (or favorite) household task/ daily chore?

I don't mind vacuuming. It's really not that hard. Turn it on and.... it goes on it's own. I LOVE my iRobot! ;)

{4} What is your favorite cleaning supply? Do you have any magic cleaning tips to share with your readers?

Cleaning supply?? Umm........... My cleaning tip to share with you guys?? Marry a man who enjoys to clean. My Ball and Chain actually has a cleaning caddy. True Story! Yes, he is a rockstar!

{5} What is your usual housework avoidance activity?

If it's during the week, I'll make it a point to help out more at my children's school. Or I'll say I have errands to run. Of course then I'll get home only in time to get ready for work. If it's the weekend, PINTEREST!! Horrible obsession at the moment! LOL

I Confess : I Lock Myself in My Pantry

I confess... There are days I want to lock my children in a closet.

I confess... I have never locked my children in a closet. But I have locked myself in my pantry. The garage. Bathroom. And my closet.

I confess... I have more patience for other peoples children and slim to none for my own.

I confess... There are times I curse, when I know I shouldn't, to emphasis the point I'm trying to get across.

I confess... When I was a kid I swore I wouldn't be so hard on my children as my parents were on me.

I confess... That hasn't worked out so well.

I confess... Our pantry is my favorite place to hide. Case in point...

I confess... My oldest son is behind in his 2nd grade learning and I feel it's my fault and I'm failing him as a parent.

I confess... I am notorious for complaining about my children climbing into my bed, but there are nights when they don't climb in that I go and get them.

I confess... I was a much better mother before I actually had my children.

I confess... Even though there are days all I do is scream and doubt myself as a mother, I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I Confess : What A Crock of Shit

I Confess...

There is no part of child birth that's fun! It's hard, it's messy, and any thought of modesty goes out the window when you have four strangers standing around looking at your whoha. Then there is the pain. If someone tells you pushing something the size of a cantaloupe, and sometimes larger, out of a 9cm hole is easy, they're on crack rock. Or pain medication.

But then you hold your child for the first time and you are blown away.

I Confess...

Being a parent is one of the HARDEST jobs you will ever have! I read a blog post this morning stating parenthood wasn't difficult. My first thought was she's full of shit. Actually I think my exact post was, "What a crock of shit." My second thought, which I kept to myself, "I want what she's having!" Two Prozac's and a shot of tequila???

On the flip side, it's one of the most FULFILLING jobs you will ever have!

I Confess...

Marriage isn't easy. No part about it is easy. Not even the sex is easy once you have kids! It's constant work. Constant learning. Constantly finding the middle ground. There will be ups, and there will be downs. At times you may doubt yourself. Nothing is perfect, no marriage is great. But you get what you give, so give 110%.

Makeup sex is always better anyways, right? ;)

There are times I use the fact I have children to my advantage.

{1} What is your most commonly used word or phrase when you are frustrated?
Since my blog doesn't contain an "adult contain warning" I'll have to go with something a little more tame like, "You got to be freakin' kidding me!" A "what the hell" slips out every so often. Along with quite a few other sailor words.

{2} What random question do you usually get from strangers or casual acquaintances?
I really can't think of a question a random stranger has asked me. The ~~monkey's~~ kids that follow me around seem to ward off anyone who would want to make verbal contact with me. And if you don't believe me I welcome you to join me on my next shopping trip. I wouldn't want to talk to me either!

{3} Did you ever correspond by mail with anyone, who? Do you still have the letters?
Sure do. All the time! PG&E, SMUD, Wells Fargo, Visa, AT&T... For some reason these fools keep asking me to send them money. Even when I throw the letters away, they still keep coming!

{4} Do you dance in public? why or why not?

Duh!!! Of course!! I have no shame shaking what my mama gave me!! She gave me enough to shake so I might as will.

{5} What is your favorite kind of chapstick/lip balm?

I'll pass on the chapstick. Call me crazy, but something about sticky stuff on my lips just doesn't do it for me. ;)

A New Year, A Better Me

Last year wasn't a very good year for me and my goals. Even though I accomplished the goals that meant the most to me, I didn't have a great over all ratio. So to fix that, I decided this year I'll only set 5 goals for myself. I know, you can say it.... GENIUS! Me and problem solving go hand in hand. ;)

My Personal Goals for 2012:

1. Talk more, yell less. - You probably think this is a crazy goal, but I'm a mother of 3 who works a full time swing shift job and is sleep deprived. Plus, I'm an Aries. It's not crazy! (I promise I wasn't yelling when I typed that)

2. Finish the California International Marathon - It'll be my first full marathon. 26.2 miles!! Would love to do it in 4:45 but I'll settle for anything under 5:00 hours.

3. Health - No more not eating till 2pm when I get to work. I want to be around as long as possible to annoy the crap out of my children. So this horrible habit most GO!

4. Call more, text/email/social network less. - In all fairness it's REALLY hard for me to talk on the phone. My kids only want to ask questions when I'm on the phone and at night when they would be in bed I'm at work. But I'll give it a whirl.

5. Learn to bake Chocolate Chip Cookies. - If you want killer sugar cookies, brownies, banana chocolate muffins, or even fudge; you got it! If you want a chocolate chip cookie you better go somewhere else. Even when I make them out of a bag they suck. True story!

2011 Goal List Recap

Alright, so I didn't do so well on my goal list for 2011. Unless the grading curve has changed and 40% is now passing. LOL. I am proud of the goals I did accomplish though, they seemed to be the most important from my list. I mean, who really needs to wash their car inside and out at least 2x a month anyways? ;) Here's a quick run down of 2011:

1. Family, family, family time! - Yes, yes, yes!!!!!
2. Get and STAY organized. Yes, this was on my list last year but I never accomplished the staying part. - For the most part I think I did a pretty darn good job!
3. Blog more. - Oops... :(
4. Finish a half marathon this year in 2:45. Giving me a 12.30 pace. - Yeah baby!! 2:34 actually!
5. Eat 6 small meals a day. And of course they should be healthy. :) - Not even close.
6. Date night with my husband every other month. - We got a couple in.
7. Get caught up on my kids photo albums. 5 years worth! - Does a year count?
8. List items in my ETSY shop. - Sigh...
9. Keep surrounding myself and family with positive and happy people. - Yippee!!
10. Wash my car inside and out every two weeks. I thought I would throw this one on for shits and giggles. ;) - Like I said, is this really necessary?

So there's my awful attempt to accomplish 10 goals in a year. I'll be rethinking my guidelines over this next week and I'll let you know what I come up with for 2012. Until then, I hope everyone had a wonderful NYE and your 2012 rocks your socks off! :)

The Past 168 Days

Wow, 168 days since the last time I blogged. I guess there goes that goal for 2011. LOL. I swear it's not because I haven't wanted to, cause I have! The thing is, life took off like a wildfire and I'm now just getting it under control. ~~I think.~~ ~~Hopefully.~~ Let's all keep our fingers crossed for me. Haha.

These past 168 days have been a fast paced roller coaster ride! From my boys tracking off from school two different months (whoever thought it was a great idea to separate siblings and put them on different tracks should be shot. figuratively speaking.), me working full time at nights, the kids schoolwork, sports, birthday parties, trips to Tahoe, running a half marathon a month, and Adam being laid off from two different jobs. It's been crazy!!

Oh, and for some reason I didn't think I had enough on my plate so I decided to join the PTA. Yep, me, a PTA mom. You can laugh. I do every time I hear it. :)

Anyways, here are a few pictures (since my camera decided to break) of the last 168 days. I would promise to blog more but who am I kidding? How about I promise to try to promise to blog more? Does that make sense? If it doesn't, sorry; it's Friday!! Enjoy!

Never in a million years did I think in 2003 I would fall madly in love with this man. But it happened, and has continued happening every day of each week since he told me he loved me. The transformation he has gone through in becoming a husband and father has shocked me in more ways than I ever thought possible. At times, the love I have for him is overwhelming. He is not just my husband and best friend, but the other half of my heart and lungs. I owe him the world for giving me the love I thought I would never find.

Our relationship has never been a cookie cutter storybook fairytale. We've done things backwards, there have been "disagreements", and hard times. But when the day is over and we turn the bed sheets back it's been our fairytale. A fairytale that's celebrating 7 years of marriage this weekend, 3 healthy and beautiful children, and more love and laughter then most marriages experience in a lifetime.

My prince charming might not have ridden up on a white horse or wears a suit every day. But let’s be real, there is only one reason why a man needs to wear a tie and it doesn't involve being worn around his neck. ;)

Pick up line: The worst pick up line ever given to me was after I told the douche bag my name was Bre, "Brie cheese is my favorite, can I eat you?" GAG!
Day of the week: At the moment my favorite day of the week is Sunday. It's the only full day I get to be with my family. My least favorite day is Monday because the Ball and Chain is home from work so I only get half of the day with him before I leave for work.
Sleep: I like to point out, require and what I actually get are WAY different. Which is probably like most moms! I require at least 8 hours of sleep. Always have. On a good night I'll get 6 hours of sleep, but normally it's more like 5ish. I work swings so when I get home from work it's the only time I have to myself to get things done without the 3 ~~monsters~~ ~~ruggrats~~ kids getting in my way.
Song: I don't even know where to begin! I love, love, LOVE music and there are sooooo many songs that take me back to great memories. "Walk like a Camel" - Southern Culture on the Skids. "Ironic" - Alanis Morissette. "Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd. "Free Falling" - Tom Petty. "You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC. "Bless The Broken Road" - Rascal Flatts. "I Gotta Feeling‬‏" - Black Eyed Peas. "Boondocks" - Little Big Town. My list could seriously go on and on!
Guilty pleasure: I would say a chilled bottle of tequila, but I really don't feel much guilt about that. So I'll have to go with a spoonful of half peanut butter and half nutella. If I'm feeling really frisky I'll spread both in a tortilla and nuke it for 20 secs. Yum! I'd love to get in contacted with someone to market it like Goober. I, along with many pregnant women and potheads, would be in heaven!

Paleo Diet ~ Week 4

Whoop whoop! Week 4 is over! We made it 30 days, for the most part, on a Paleo diet! I am super proud of my Ball and Chain for sticking to the diet plan and doing his damnedest to change his eating style. This diet really opened both of our eyes and gaves us a new perspective on food.

It also helped the Ball and Chain to lose 16 pounds in 30 days! That was with no exercise and not cutting out his rum and diet cokes on the weekends. I have no idea what I lost because I didn't weight myself in the beginning, but I do know for a fact I lost inches. And that's good enough for me!

Even though we are not going to follow the diet to a "T" anymore, I did buy a new Paleo cookbook. It's called "Everyday Paleo" and the recipes look really yummy. Yes, I bought it because each recipe had a picture next to it. :) The biggest thing for us is that we are going to remain eating healthy. High protein, moderate complex carbs, good fats, and portion control. It's not a diet, but a lifestyle!

Speech: Only 10 mins? That's going to be hard! I honestly don't think I would give a speech on all the things that you should and shouldn't do because we all know it'll just drive them to do it. Instead I would hold an open mic type of deal and let them ask me questions. They need to know the honest truth about sex, drugs, and rock & roll; so what other way can they get that information but from the horses mouth? I'm an open book! I am who I am because of the things I went through; no shame there!
Pets: We have two cats, Tigger and Pooh; the Easter Bunny brought them 3 years ago. Yes, you read that right, the Easter Bunny. Didn't you know good ol' Mr. Hippity Hoppity likes cats? And cats like rabbits? Get with it people!
Inconvenience where I live: Section 8 (low income/g'ment housing). Hold on! Before you tar and feather me let me explain. I'm all for helping people get back on their feet; I've been there, but handing over keys to a 3,000 sqft home (the typical size in my area or close to) is not realistically helping someone get back on their feet. It's giving them false hope. The kicker for the area I live in, is these homes are beautiful and they aren't being taken care of.
Best decision: I wouldn't call it a decision, it was more like an OOPS 8 years ago when I got pregnant with my first ruggrat. The two additional ruggrats rank right up there with Mr. Oops.
Three nevers: 1. I will NEVER allow my kids to have a pet spider. I thought when I was a teenage if I watched Arachnophobia for the 2nd time it would cure my phobia. Wrong! 2. I've never traveled outside of the US, but once the ruggrats are grown it's the first thing I plan on doing with the Ball and Chain. Ok, maybe the second. ;) 3. I'll never turn down a good margarita or an ice cold beer. Unless I'm preggers. Duh!

Quirky family situation: Lets see… my daughters first name is my maiden name. Which wouldn’t be so quirky if I had actually changed my last name when I got married; 7 years ago. No judging people! I don’t judge individuals that don’t change their last names back when they get divorced. So don’t judge me and my last name changing issues. Anyways, so when she was born we got a lot of questioning looks from the nurses wondering why in the world we would name our child Taylor Taylor. Cause they’ve never seen a weirder name then that? The Ball and Chain was very quick to point out to everyone I have last name changing issues and made sure all the documents got the correct last name before leaving the hospital.
Stressful aspect to blogging: Where the hell are my followers?? My button has been missing for DAYS! How are people suppose to join my chaotic world if I don’t have the link? And don’t tell me it’s because I’m not cool enough to be your friend. Cause I am! I swear!
Websites you flock to daily: Facebook, Yahoo, and Banking. Hello! Gotta sniper people’s pages, bullshit with my favorite peeps to pass the time at work, and it’s a must to watch the Ball and Chains spending. That way I have more funds to online shop. :)

IceCream: This could be the hardest question of all time! Or it could just be hard cause I’ve been on a stupid diet for almost a month. Alright, first one that comes to mind is Ben & Jerry’s Coffee Heath. Then there’s Vic’s Peppermint (local ice cream shop). Can’t forget Thrifty’s Mint Chip (chocolate flakes, not chunks). And I really like Ben & Jerry’s Mint Cookie but that one is hard to find. OH and Coldstone’s Coffee! So maybe I have an issue with ice cream too.

Paleo Diet ~ Week 3

Week 3 is done!! Only one more week to go! This past week was a little harder on me then the previous weeks. Even though I craved carbs super bad the first week, this week it was salt. It may have to do with me starting my running schedule back up. I don't know, but I'll track week 4's carvings with my workouts and see what I come up with.

We did have two meals this week that will for sure be in the monthly dinner rotation; Spaghetti w/Steamed Green Beans and Jambalaya. I'll be up front, I was very hesitant with the Jambalaya recipe because... it's Jambalaya! How in the world are you suppose to eat it without rice? Yum, Rice! But surprisingly it did turn out pretty good.

Spaghetti w/Steamed Green Beans

1.5 lbs ground turkey (ground beef of chicken is fine)

2 tbsp dry Italian seasoning

2 jars spaghetti sauce

1 1/2 cups frozen carrots & peas

Fresh Green Beans (you can use frozen or canned)

~ Brown ground turkey with Italian seasoning. While meat is browning, mix spaghetti sauce and frozen veggies into your slow cooker. Once meat is done, drain excess fat grease and mix cooked meat into the spaghetti sauce. Cook on low for 4 to 5 hours. Clean fresh green beans and cut off the ends. Steam green beans 20 minutes before you are ready to eat. Pour sauce over your green beans and enjoy dinner!

Jambalaya

1 lb spicy chicken sausage - sliced

1 1/2 cooked shrimp

1 green pepper - diced

1 red pepper - diced

1 small onion - chopped

1 tomato - chopped

1 head of cauliflower - finely chopped

2 small cans of El Pato tomato sauce

1 cup water
2 tsp olive oil
2 tsp creole seasoning

~ In a large pan saute; green peppers, red peppers, and onions. In another pan, brown chicken sausage. Once the sausage is brown add to the saute pan. Also add tomato sauce, water, cauliflower, tomato's, and creole seasoning. On medium heat bring to a boil. Then cover and reduce heat for 20 minutes. Once ready, add shrimp and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes or until shrimp has warmed. Great with a side salad!

Paleo Diet ~ Week 2

So easy a caveman can do it? I'm really not sure if I would go that far because this diet is a pain in the ass! First off, since there is no processed food (yes, i'm still having withdrawals from my taco bell volcano burritos) that means weekly shopping trips to the grocery store for fresh produce. You try taking a gaggle of kids to the grocery store and see how you feel after. I'll bet you'll be hiding right next to me in the garage sneaking a beer. Which of course is NOT allowed on this diet! Then there is the prep work. Grant it, it does make the rest of the week meal making a lot easier. But it's still an afternoon of washing, chopping, dicing, and packaging. Pretty much what I've learned after week 2 is this... dieting is a pain in the ass!

A few things we ate during week two...

Beef Stir-Fry:
Tip Steak - sliced
Carrots - shredded
Broccoli - flowerets
Asparagus - diced
Bean Sprouts - 1 small bag (may or may not be allowed, i don't know)
Water chestnuts - diced
2 tsp Sesame Seed Oil

~ Saute carrots, broccoli, and asparagus in sesame seed oil. After about 5 mins add tip steak and cook until steak is at the temperature you desire. Add bean sprouts and water chestnuts, toss for a few more minutes over medium heat. Enjoy!

Pork Roast and Veggies (slow cooker):
3lbs Pork Tenderloin
15oz tomato sauce
2tsp basil
1tsp garlic powder
Cauliflower - flowerets
Zucchini - sliced
Asparagus - cut ends off

~ Mix tomato sauce, basil, and garlic powder in your slow cooker. Coat pork roast with seasoned tomato sauce. Add Cauliflower. Cook on low for 6 hours. After about 4 hours add zucchini and asparagus and cook until done. If you aren't able to add the zucchini and asparagus until after the cook time you can always steam them.

Egg, Turkey, Veggie Scramble:
4 eggs - scrambled
1/4 cup red/green bell peppers - chopped
1/4 cup spinach - chopped
Turkey - diced
A couple dashes of hot sauce

I know hate is a strong word but it's been one of those weeks and that's just where I'm at, at the moment.

I HATE...

1. Wasting food - So much goes into it. The money that buys it, the time it takes to purchase and prepare it, and the thought there are starving children all over the world.

2. Slow drivers - I'm not saying you need to go over the speed limit, but the speed doesn't change for the left, middle, or right lane. If you are going to drive 55mph take the back streets! Slow drivers cause accidents! There's actually been a study on it.

3. Laziness - It's whats wrong with America. PERIOD!

4. Empty food bags in my pantry - Yeah I know it's kinda random, but it drives me ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. I don't understand why it's so hard to just throw the damn things away. You are walking into the kitchen so why not throw it in the garbage? Mind boggling!

5. Kiss asses - You aren't good at your job because you have your head so far up the bosses ass. You are good at your job because you have the skills and knowledge to do it. Ugh! So annoying!

6. Our school system - 30 to 1 ratio without teacher aides. No librarian. REALLY?? These children are our future. What is this saying about us? Let me tell you as nicely as I can put it... WE DON'T GIVE A F*CK ABOUT OUR FUTURE. We'll all be dead, or close to it; so it doesn't effect us. Right?

I'll leave you with lucky number 7...

7. Non listeners - We don't have to agree on everything. Hell, we don't have to agree on anything. But I'll bet money (which I don't have much extra these days) if we actually listened, truly listened, to one another we could change things. It's called COMPROMISE. And that's not just for government issues, but relationships too.

I need a long run and a STRONG drink!

I got this in an email yesterday, so you may have already seen it, but I felt compiled to share...

I’ll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth around” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to “keep people in their homes.” Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the leftwing Congresscritters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them—with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by leftwing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the religious freedom and women’s rights of Saudi Arabia, the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the tolerance for Gay people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won’t multiculturalism be beautiful?

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor;” of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers;” of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery;” of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I believe “a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.” I’m tired of being told that “race doesn’t matter” in the post-racial world of President Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois. I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less in an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of a news media that thinks Bush’s fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama’s, at triple the cost, were wonderful. That thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress, that picked over every line of Bush’s military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his, that slammed Palin with two years as governor for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever.

I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don’t think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called “undocumented workers,” especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers, “Undocumented Pharmacists”? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military. Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people then themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years—and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers—bums are bi-partisan. And I’m tired of people telling me we need bi-partisanship. I live in Illinois, where the “Illinois Combine” of Democrats and Republicans has worked together harmoniously to loot the public for years. And I notice that the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet are bi-partisan as well.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were “poor.” The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I’m not going to get to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.

Paleo Diet ~ Week 1

Week 1 of our diet adventure is over and all I can say is.... Thank goodness there is only 3 more weeks to go! I am not a diet person, I like food! You know the saying, "eat, drink, and be merry?" I live by those words. But my husband wanted to give the Paleo Diet a try, and since I'm such a great wife, I figured I should be supportive and follow the 30-day plan with him.

Friends of ours choose the book, "The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet" and have had great results, so we decided to read the same book. The Paleo Diet pretty much takes eating back to the hunter and gatherer days; meat, veggies, and fruit. No processed foods (DUH, that's just common sense), no refined sugar (more common sense), no dairy, no grains, no potatoes, and no legumes. That's a whole lot of no's and I don't like no's. Just ask my husband! ;)

So far Adam has lost about 6lbs. Me? Yeah, the scale and I have major issues so I refuse to stand on it. Ever since I can remember I've had this number stuck in my head of what my weight "should" be. And even though I know it's unrealistic, not only because it's unhealthy but also muscle weights more then fat, I can't shake the number. So instead of beating my self-esteem up over a number, I chose to gage my results on how I feel and look. And with that... I better see some damn results quickly or this carb loving girl is going to throw in the towel!

Who Am I?

I am a mom who works evenings so she can wake up and spend part of the day with 3 little smiling faces. I am a wife to an incredible man who whole heartedly loves me for who I am and not for who he would like me to be. My tombstone engraving will read, "you can sleep when you're dead; that time is now." If my body didn't require nutrients I would live off of coffee, beer, tequlia, Taco Bell's volcano burrito (w/beans no meat) and reeses pieces. Probably in that order. I am passionate, random, enthusiastic, and opinionated. I speak fluent sarcasm! Yoga pants, flip flops, and running shoes make up most of my wardrobe. I believe the NFL should play year round. I am an Aries! The tool box must be organized but my kitchen island is another story. I run because I can't afford therapy. I've made many mistakes, but no regrets. Dancing with my kids ALWAYS brings a smile to my face. I'm a concert snob! Toilets are gross, I do NOT clean them. Did I mention I married an incredible man? :) I like to pretend I'm crafty. I only use white hangers. The louder the music, the better. I should have been a beach bum but instead my life turned out crazy and chaotic. I'm sure glad it did!

In honor of Earth Day this week (April 22nd), our family pledged an act of green to plant a garden at home. And that is exactly what we did yesterday! Even though we no longer have the backyard we once had, we still have managed to find a way to grow a few of our favorite veggies. Now instead of an above ground garden we have beautiful colored pots lining our backyard fence. And when we want zucchini we'll just steal it from Nana's house. Or our new neighbors. ;) How are you going to celebrate Earth Day?

Ten on Ten: 10 snapshots, 10 consecutive hours, on the 10th day of the month!

This month's 10 on 10 will probably go down in history as the BEST 10 on 10. Why? Because my mom made a promise to run a half marathon with me to celebrate my 30th birthday. And she did just that! I choose Santa Cruz Half Marathon for my April run -I'm punishing myself for turning 30 by running a half a month this year- because of the beautiful scenery; completely forgetting the coastal hills. Let me tell you, it was not an easy course for someone running their first half! But my mom rocked it!!! I am so very proud of her and our two girlfriends Amy and Deborah who joined. Thank you ladies for the most memorable 30th! I promise next year we can go to a spa. :)

What A Day!

Why is it when I have my day perfectly planned all hell breaks loose? And by "all hell" I mean my family. :p

So last night while I was at work I get a call from my husband telling me our house (we are almost done with a VERY LONG refi) is getting appraised between 9:30/10:00 the next day. Awesome, there goes my plans to run in the morning and now cleaning when I get home from work instead of working on a birthday present. Then my BCF (best cousins forever) texts me that I'm wrong on my dates and the JBF drop off is actually Wednesday (today) and not Thursday. Even better! Now I get to clean, finish tagging items, and work on a birthday present after getting home from work at midnight!

I'm not trying to complain because my days are pretty much always like this. Run, run. Go, go. All before 2pm when I leave for work. But the story doesn't stop there. Taylor wakes up this morning with a fever and is cranky; telling me her ear hurts. Not only do I have 2 school drop offs, 1 pick up, an appraiser coming over; load my car with all the JBF sale items, and JBF drop off. Now I have a sick kid who needs to go to the doctors on top of all that. PULLING MY HAIR OUT!

You would think it couldn't get any worse, but you're wrong. Here's the kicker... So while I am dropping my JBF things off, my mother in-law is watching my 2 younger ones (thank you deena) and Taylor gets super tired. Naturally she lays her down for a rest. I get back and go to wake her for the appointment and of course, she has had an accident! My first thought, not a problem. My mother in-law loves to shop, she'll have something. I really need to stop thinking...

Yes, that would be my daughter in Spiderman undies standing outside of the hospital with no pants. Because that's all we had! Today was the first time I was actually happy we still go to a hospital that isn't in such a great neighborhood. We fit right in today!

Red Beans and Rice

Happy Fat Tuesday!

1 lb dry small red beans
4 cups chicken broth
1 can of beer (if you don't want beer use 2 cups of water)
1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
1 medium onion, chopped
2 or 3 celery stalks, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 bunch of green onions, sliced (split in half)
2 1/2 tsp creole seasoning
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 bay leaves
1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
Cayenne pepper, to taste
Cooked rice

~ Rinse dry beans in a colander and remove any deformed ones. In your crock pot combined; chicken broth, beer (or water), tomato sauce, onion, celery, bell pepper, green onions, creole seasoning, and garlic. Next pour in the dry beans and stir. Toss in the bay leaves and cover. Add the sausage and cayenne pepper an hour or 2 before you are ready to eat. Cook on slow for 8 hours or until the beans are done. Once you are ready to eat, mash some of the beans along the side of the pot and stir. This will give it a creamy texture. Serve over cooked rice and garnish with green onions.

Side Note: Start by using 6 cups of liquid and if more is needed then add a small amount at a time. If you end up with to much liquid at the end of the cook time then remove some. All crock pots cook differently so adjust accordingly. Just remember the "sauce" is the best part about this dish so don't make it to "dry". Now go find your happy medium! :)

Lent 2011

Tomorrow we'll be celebrating Fat Tuesday, which means Red Beans and Rice for dinner and hopefully a Kings Cake if I get a chance to bake one before work. It also means the following day is Lent. And even though my family does not belong to a certain church, or go to church on a regular basis; I still like to participate in the Lent tradition.

Each year I have tried to give up something different. Last year I gave up online shopping, the year before that it was carbonated drinks, and the year before that I gave up chocolate. So to do something different for 2011 I've decided to give up Facebook. Yes, roll your eyes. But Facebook really does help pass the time while I'm at work. Of course that’s once my work is done. :)

OMG! How young did we look? And what were we thinking when it came to our hairstyle choice? I can't believe it has already been 12 years since I feel in love with my wonderful husband. Grant it, we haven't been together all 12 of those years, but we have for 8. Actually, it's more like 8 1/2 years if you count the 6 months we "dated" when we first meet back in 98'.

Sometimes I wonder what would it be like if we had stayed together since the beginning. Would we still be together? Would we still be as happy as we were the day we got married? Would we still be in love? The more I think about it, the more I know the answer would be... No.

We needed that time to find ourselves; to grow. Not only as individuals, but also as friends. We needed the sadness and heartache that came along with that growth to understand what we really wanted in life. What true love really meant to one another. That you must be true to yourself before you can be true to someone else.

But most of all, to know the best way to begin a relationship is through a friendship. And the best way to begin a marriage is by marrying your best friend. Which is exactly what we did! :)

I thought since it's National Margarita Day it was only fitting to share my favorite recipe for this yummy slushy drink!

6oz frozen limeade concentrate
6oz tequila
6oz beer
fresh orange
ice

~ Fill your blender pitcher with ice. Pour in half a can of frozen limeade; place the rest back into the freezer till your next batch. Add tequila and half a can of beer (light beer works well). Drink the rest of the can while blending. :) Slice the orange in half and squeeze one side into the pitcher; save the other half for your next batch. Blend until it reaches the consistency you like. Enjoy!

The Little Things

There are days this man can drive me crazy, but then there are days he does something so small that makes me smile. Last night was one of those moments. He reminded me why I'm so thankful to have him in my life.

I had won a free $50 gift card and before choosing which one to get I asked him. Target, Walmart, Old Navy, or Kohls. I asked if I should be realistic or selfish. His answer... "selfish for once."

Just those 3 little words made me realize, even though he doesn't knowledge all that I do on a daily bais; he does still see it. It's nice at time's to be reminded how much you are appericated in a relationship. A price tag doesn't show love, but the little things do. I am sure lucky to have been blessed with such a wonderful husband!

Oh... I choose Kohl's. I'm in much need of some summer clothes. :)

Cheesy Chicken Pot Pie

Cheesy Chicken Pot Pie
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, boiled
1 10.75oz can condensed cheddar cheese soup
1 10.75oz can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 3/4 cups frozen corn
2 cups frozen peas & carrot mix
Zatarain's Creole Seasoning for flavoring

Double Pie Crust Recipe
2 cups wheat flour
3/4 tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening
1/4 cup water

~ In a large bowl mix together soups, frozen veggies, and seasoning. Either shred or dice chicken; add to mixture. Set aside. In another bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water and stir until dough forms a ball. Divide dough in half. Roll one ball to fit a 9-in. or 10-in. pie dish. Transfer to pie dish. Trim pastry to the edge of dish. Pour chicken mixture into crust. Roll out second ball and cut slits in pastry. Transfer to pie dish positioning over filling. Seal edges. Bake at 375 degress for 45 minutes or until crust is a golden brown. ~

Side Note: You can always use a pre-made pie crust from the store! :)

Guess Who's Back??

Guess who's back, back again? Bre's back, tell a friend! Yep, that's right blog world and wonderful followers. The time has come for me to start writing again. I can't believe one of my 2011 goals was to blog more and then I don't write anything for over a month. Yeah, that's really not going to help me cross a goal off my list at the end of year. You can't accomplish something unless you work at!

So here I am; working on it, at work, without my Windows Live Writer, because my computer was updated and going nuts because I really want it back. Is it wrong for me to purchase a laptop just so I can bring it to work to blog? I wonder if there is a way to write it off at the end of the year for tax purposes. Then it would be totally justifiable. Right?

Top Ten Goals for 2011

If you happened to have read my top ten goals for 2010 you would know I am not a fan of New Years Resolutions. But I do like making realistic goals for myself. We can’t better ourselves unless we challenge ourselves, Right?

Top Ten Goals for 2011 (no certain order other then the first one):
1. Family, family, family time!
2. Get and STAY organized. Yes, this was on my list last year but I never accomplished the staying part.
3. Blog more.
4. Finish a half marathon this year in 2:45. Giving me a 12.30 pace.
5. Eat 6 small meals a day. And of course they should be healthy. :)
6. Date night with my husband every other month.
7. Get caught up on my kids photo albums. 5 years worth!
8. List items in my ETSY shop.
9. Keep surrounding myself and family with positive and happy people.
10. Wash my car inside and out every two weeks. I thought I would throw this one on for shits and giggles. ;)

~ I did my best to keep the food as simple as possible this year; meat and cheese tray, veggies, fruit, dips, etc. For the little kids I made ladybug shaped pb&j’s with a cookie cutter I ordered on EBay. Taylor’s cake and cupcakes were made by my wonderful cousin, Jamie. I purchased the cupcake toppers from a very cute shop, The invitation Chic, on EBay. I made the little girls ladybug goodie bags using Dana’s tutorial over at MADE. I forgot to take a picture, but the boys got a cup full of “mud” as their goodie bag. Which of course was pudding, smashed Oreo’s, and gummy worms in a cup. And for the adults, candy mold ladybug thank you’s. Taylor’s “Love Bug” shirt is from my girlfriends shop, Classy Bowtique. I got her hat from Mamabargains, and it’s made by Lollitops. I made her tutu and sparkly toe Converse’s. Oh, and her invitations. :) Until next year…

Best Mashed Sweet Potatoes!

I ran across this recipe a few months back and with a few minor tweaks I have discovered my new FAVORTIE sweet potato side dish. You can mash these by hand, whip them with a mixer, or even use a food processor. Basically, use whatever your little heart desires. What are you in the mood for? Mashed, whipped, or pulsated? Yum! :)

4 large sweet potatoes – peeled and cut into chunks

1/4 cup & 2 tablespoons maple syrup (the real stuff)

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons butter

1 large sweet onion – thinly sliced

salt and pepper for taste

Heat oven to 375. In a bowl, toss together sweet potato chunks, maple syrup, and olive oil. Place in a baking dish and bake for 45 minutes, or until they are tender to a fork. 10-15 minutes before sweet potatoes are done, melt butter in a pan over medium-high heat. Add onions and remaining maple syrup. Cook onions till they are a golden brown, stir often. Once sweet potatoes are done transfer to a bowl you can mash them in. While mashing add browned onions, salt, and pepper. If your potatoes are not smooth enough add a tablespoon at a time of water until they reach the consistence you like. Enjoy!

Mexican Pork and Pinto Beans

I finally made dried beans in the crock-pot that turned out yummy. Yay! Not only did Adam enjoy dinner, so did the kids. Mason actually ate 2 burritos! This dish will defiantly be made again. And even better, it made enough for leftovers plus a container to freeze for dinner in a few weeks.

Mexican Pork and Pinto Beans:

4lb pork roast (boneless is easier to shred
1lb dried pinto beans
8oz can diced green chilies
2tbsp salt
2tbsp ground cumin
2tbsp dried oregano
2tbsp garlic powder
1tbsp chili powder
Tortillas

In a bowl, mix together beans, chilies, and spices. Place roast into your crock-pot and pour the bean mixture around it. Using the same mixing bowl, fill with water and pour on top of the roast. This way you get out all the spices left inside. Put enough water in your crock-pot so the roast is almost covered. Cook on low for about 9 hours. Check half way through to make sure the beans haven’t absorbed all the water. If they have add a little at a time. Once it’s done, remove the roast and shred with two forks. Return the meat to the crock-pot and let soak while you get everything else ready for dinner. Enjoy!

*My beans never absorbed all the water and I actually ended up draining the dish once the shred meat cooked for a little bit*

Kids Pumpkin Carving Party

I had some doubts once I started (along with my wonderful BCF, Jamie) gutting 22 pumpkins, but… The kids pumpkin carving party was a SUCCES! Of course it had to rain on this one day in October. But what party goes off without any problems? Hell, I had two groomsmen show up to our wedding wearing the wrong colored vest and cummerbunds. If I can handle that on one of the most important days of my life, then I can handle a rain storm during a kids party. :)

As for the food, which I’m still super bummed I didn’t get pictures of, we served: bloody worms (pulled pork), scrambled brains (macaroni salad), scary ghosts (pb&j’s), skeleton bones (veggie tray), and goblin eyes (fruit salad). For dessert there was a graveyard cake and cupcakes. And to drink we had Swamp Juice (lime and lemon concentrate w/sprite and sherbet ice cream), Blood Punch (cranberry juice and club soda w/floating orange slices), and “Holy” Water (something i need to drink more of).

Can’t wait till next year!!

After this past weekend I ~~was told~~ decided it would be best for me to take some time off from running so *fingers crossed* my shin splints heal. I was advised, aka TOLD, I shouldn’t run for about a month or so. I’m thinking “or so” means two weeks. Yes? No?

It was just little over a year ago that I finished my first half marathon and since then I have completed a total of 4 half marathons. Last weekend being my personal best, finished in 2:51! My goal was to average a 13 min pace and I ended up averaging a 13:07 pace. I’ll take it! Funny how something I despised not so long ago has turned into a passion for me.

Actually, it’s become more like a drug to me. I never thought it could happen, but I’m addicted. The more I run, the more I push myself, the higher I get. Resulting in me feeling like I can do anything I set my mind to. The sky is the limit when I am running.

Kinda sounds like PCP minus the harmful side effects. Besides these damn shin splints, that is. You can bet money on I’ll take my natural drug any day over PCP!

Tick-tock tick-tock these next two weeks need to fly by! :)

I have a beautiful mantel above my fireplace and for some odd reason I have absolutely nothing to hang from it. So I changed that very quickly! :)

What you’ll need:

Halloween Paper - The paper I used was from My Mind’s Eye "Spooked" 2008 collect. I found it at Big Lots awhile ago.

Cricut or traceable templates - You’ll need a base shape, overlay shape, and letters.

Ribbon

Glue stick

Razor

Super easy steps:

1. Cut out your shapes. I choose a 5.5” circle, 4” blacked-out “flower”, and my letters are 2” cuts. Of course you can make yours any size you like.2. Next you’ll want to glue your pieces together. I decided to make my overlay shape solid black because I thought it looked to busy with it being a print. 3. With your razor slice a large enough opening for your ribbon 1/4 of the way down from the top on both sides of your letters.4. Lace ribbon through your die cut by entering the top of your first letter and then exiting the letter by coming up through back. Repeat with the remaining letters.5. Cute banner for the mantel. :)

Skulls, Pumpkins, Oh MY!

I have a beautiful mantel above my fireplace and for some odd reason I have absolutely nothing on it. So I got to thinking (i know scary!) what are some key elements to Halloween? Skulls and pumpkins were the first to come to mind. Then I thought (yes, that would be 2 thoughts in one day. OVERLOAD) what says super cute Halloween decor more then glitter? Um, nothing! Glitter it is!!

I recommend working over a cookie sheet for this project. I also lined my cookie sheet with foil so when it was time to pour the extra glitter back into the container it was easier. Wax paper would probably work better but I was all out.

All you need to do is use a paint brush and coat the skull with glue. Make sure you work in small sections so the glue doesn’t dry out before getting covered with glitter. If you notice a spot lacking glitter, just recoat that area with glue and then re-glitter. Tap the object a few times once it’s dry to knock off any extra glitter. Then pour left over glitter back into your container. And now your done!

Throw some color on the pumpkins and you get these…

I was able to find the skulls at the Dollar Tree and the pumpkins came from Joann’s. They were apart of the “8 Harvest Mix” bagged decor. I lucked out with them being 50% off plus another 30% off because one was chipped. Coming to .25 a pumpkin. I’m no genus but that’s cheaper then the Dollar Tree! :)

Halloween Wreath

I LOVE to decorate for the holidays and Halloween is no expectation! The only thing is, I like cute and fun Halloween decorations. Not the typical blood, guts, and skulls stuff. So when I came across this super cute Halloween Wreath I just knew I had to make it. I did do a couple things different, but it still turned out great!

Items Needed:

12” Wreath

1 1/2” Ribbon (18 foot spool)

Multiple 3/8” & 5/8” matching ribbon (appx. 900/1000” total)

3 and 1 Numbers

Glitter Paint

Hot glue gun

Extra ribbon to hang wreath (appx. 2 feet)

Steps:

1. Wrap 1 1/2” ribbon around your wreath (I found this ribbon in the clearance bin at Joann’s for $1).2. Cut the 3/8” & 5/8” ribbon into 5” sections. (I did cut a few 4.5” sections to use on the inside of my wreath). Most of my ribbon was bought at the $1 Tree and in the $1 section of Target. 3. Fold ribbon in half and sew together, making a long strip.4. Now cut between each ribbon, separating them from the strip.5. Open the bottom of your sewn piece and apply hot glue. Then place on your wreath. Work in small sections till you fill the wreath. 6. Paint your numbers using glitter paint (next time I’ll apply an undercoat so I don’t have to apply so many coats of the glitter paint). 7. Once the numbers are dried glue to the front of your wreath. Then turn over and glue matching ribbon onto the back of the wreath as the hanging ribbon. You can simply loop the wreath through the ribbon but I didn’t like how it smashed the front ribbon.8. Now hang your SUPER CUTE Halloween wreath!!

The other morning Mason and I were having our normal breakfast conversation when he ask, "Mom, does F-U-C-K spell anything?" Of course I was totally shocked and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. So as nonchalantly as I could over my cup of coffee I ask him what he thought. "Yeah, it spells F*CK!" Alrighty then, lesson learned. Don't ask a 6 going on 7 year old who clearly can sound out words what they spell!

I went to the game knowing; 1. They had to win this game because most of my closest friends are Niner fans. 2. I wanted the game to be a good one. No blow out like the last time they came to town. and 3. They had to win so I could get my new Saints shot glass. Check, check, and check!! Saints 25 Niners 22.

Once again life got crazy busy these past few weeks and my blogging had to be put on hold. Which by the way, made me a little sad because I missed my 1 year blogging Anniversary. I truly can’t believe I have already been blogging for a whole year! Well, now it’s more like a year and 11 days. But who’s counting? ;)

When I first started blogging I didn’t really have a direction where I wanted to take this and it still seems I don’t have a complete direction. But that’s ok. I’m pretty scattered brain in my everyday life so I guess it’s only fitting to be a little all over the place here in blog world. The only thing I knew when I started blogging, was that my life was taking a change and there was no better time to begin something that I had always wanted to do but then.

You know what? I’ll take that whole direction crap back, my blog does have direction… the same crazy direction that takes me threw everyday life. The everyday life that I cherish and am so happy to have!

I guess that was my 1 year whoop whoop to myself. LOL. Stay tuned and I’ll fill you in on all our adventures and craziness soon. :)

With the kids back in school I really thought I would have more time to work on my projects. I even had it all planned out. Instead of sewing at night when I got home from work, I would sew during the morning while enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee. Seriously, what was I thinking? Sew with just Baby Girl home? YEAH RIGHT!

So needless to say… I have a bunch of fabric and tons of ideas but absolutely no time to do anything with either one of them! Oh the joys of being a stay home and working momma. Wouldn’t it be great if we could buy time? I would totally trade in my shoe addiction for a couple more hours in a day. Well, maybe. OK… probably not. ;)

I would LOVE to show you my 10 on 10 photos. I actually got a couple really cute ones of Baby Girl watering our garden. I was even able to get an adorable photo of Mason eating his breakfast before heading out to school. But, NOOO, I can’t show you any of these snapshots, because one of the two younger ones decided to run off with my camera!!

I have searched our house high and low for my sidekick, Canon, and he is no where to be found. I even ~~bribed~~ offered to pay Cody $5 to find Mr. Canon. No such luck. He is still missing. But I’m not giving up that easy, the search party will resume this weekend…

“Psycho” meets “The Shining”

When it comes to hotels I have a pretty laid back attitude. I mean, all you really need is a place to shower and lay your head for the few hours of sleep you’ll be getting. But with this laid back attitude and the not knowing what a hotel truly looks like when booking online, comes Black Jack Inn. Hands down, this is the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. It honestly was so bad, that it was funny. The best way to describe this hotel would be, “Psycho meets “The Shining.” Another way would be by the wonderful pictures I took. Hope you enjoy them more then we enjoyed our stay. LOL :)

Fun in the Sun

OK, I lied… Fun in the partial sun. :) This past weekend we headed down to Santa Cruz for some relaxing fun with great friends. OK, I lied again… Great friends? Yes! Relaxing? Not so much!!! Camping with 10 kids is no where near relaxing! What were we thinking? Coming back home felt more like a vacation. LOL.

We stayed at the Santa Cruz KOA and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this establishment. There were so many activities for the kids onsite and the employees were super friendly. The younger kids loved the train ride through the campsite and the older boys even liked the jumping pillow. In the end, we managed and the kids had a fabulous time. That’s all that matters, right? ;)

Flower Petal Backpack

I’m going to apologize in advance for the crappy pictures. I took them on my cell phone and I’m not cool enough to have one of those fancy Iphones. :)~Materials: 1 backpack 1 bag of flower petals hot glue gun

All I did was stuff the bag with paper to give it some kind of form and then started gluing on the flower petals. I started my rows from the bottom of the bag and worked my way up. That way I was able to see an open spots once I was done. I found the canvas backpack at Michael’s for about a $1 and the flower petals I found at the Dollar Tree. Making this adorable backpack $2!!

My Love~ Six years ago I married by best friend. And six years later, I am still married to you! I may joke you only married me because you knocked me up. I’m proud to say with only 10 days into our summer list we have checked off 3 things! Over this past week and a half we’ve gone to see Toy Story 3, we went to the slash park (tomorrow will be the 2nd time), and we planted our garden. The boys also decided to add 3 more things to the list: bake a cake with nana, go watch uncle wheat play baseball, and bike ride to the park. This is going to be a busy summer!

FREE Summer Movies

I’m sure most parents know about this, but it doesn’t hurt to throw out a little reminder. FREE summer movie festival has begun! From now till the end of August select Regal Entertainment Theaters will be showing a selected G and PG movie on Tuesday and Wednesday each week at 10am. Yes, the movies are older. Yes, your child has probably already seen them. But… they are FREE! Any movie, old or new, in a theater is AWESOME! And if you don’t believe me, just take your kid and find out. :)

Our Summer List

I first saw this cool idea on Debbie’s Blog and thought this would be a really fun thing to do with the kids. Not only would it allow them to choose things they would like to do over the next few months, but it would also help us implement our rewards system with them better. Then I saw the same idea, with a little twist over on Eighteen25 and knew I must do it this way. Of course I’ll be kicking myself in the ass when I’m up at 2am doing it, but oh well. :)

~Materials~ 1. 11x17 poster frame ($4 at Walmart) 2. 12x12 scrapbooking paper (5 for $1 at Joann's) 3. Black dry easer marker 4. Glue stick 5. Kid(s) with a great imagination!

Cut a 5x11 piece of paper for the header
Cut 1x11 strips with 3 pieces of your paper
Cut 1 piece of paper to 11x12
Glue down your header paper and 11x12 paper
Next arrange 1x11 strips and then glue those down
Place glass top back into frame
Now have fun with your kids and write out your summer list!!!

One of “those” days…

Today has been one of THOSE days!! Our day started out great with everyone sleeping in and waking up in good moods. But all that took a sudden change over breakfast, in a snap of a finger my children went from fun loving kids to hellions! All I wanted to do was get them out of the house to meet friends at the park before swim lessons. And even though I know I should’ve just kept them home for the non stop bickering and not listening, I just needed a break. Of course that didn’t happen! It all carried into the car ride to the park, which led to pouting kids (because I refused to answer either one of them in the car) wanting to sit next to me on the park bench. Really?? GO PLAY! LET MOMMY BREATH!

Then there was meltdown central with Taylor . How do you make an almost 2 year old happy when they don’t even know what they want? Up. Down. Swing. No swing. Sit. Stand. Stroller. No stroller. MINE. MINE. MINE! I don’t remember the boys ever being this emotional. What have I gotten myself into?

I truly thought about stopping at the strawberry stand on our way home from swim lessons and asking if I could trade all 3 of my children for a flat of fresh strawberries. It could have been a win-win situation, free labor for them and silence for me (plus the strawberries). Thankfully I remembered this photo and it was enough to give me the strength not to stop (and the fact I was leaving for work shortly). Tomorrow WILL be a better day!

With the weather nice and Mason out of school, our days have been CRAZY busy!! Luckily I remembered to set the alarm on my cell phone to remind me that today was the the 10th, since last month I forgot. I almost need a reminder to remind me to set the alarm! Is that bad??

Baby Girls new thing is to smile with her eyes closed. It’s making picture taking a LOT harder!The boys are LOVING swim lessons. Mason swam today all by himself! Of course I missed it with the camera. UGH!BUDDIES ~ BUDDIES ~ BUDDIES!I truly believe Cody is going to be a Fireman when he grows up.The reason why God put me here on this Earth!A sneak peak at my next project. :)Can you say, “Skirts galore?”

I Heart Faces – Week 23 “Play”

Teacher Goody Box

I would LOVE to take credit for this super cute and fun idea, but I can’t. Jennifer from Eighteen25 posted this clever idea for teacher appreciation week back in April and with it being the end of the school year, I decided to putting it to use. Thanks Jen! :)

Step 1: Get yourself a craft box (I got mine at Walmart since that’s where I was shopping at the time. It was $2)Step 2: Purchase office supplies (I also got these at Walmart. DUH, same shopping trip)Mason picked these because they looked like his school colors. You could totally get cheaper ones. I think Staples even has them in a dollar section.Step 3: Pick out 3 pieces of paper from your scrap box or head over to your local paper store.

Step 4: I didn’t take a photo of this step so if I don’t explain it well enough, check out Jennifer's post. All you need to do is take your top paper and trace the outline of the lid onto and cut it out. Next cut a strip from your 2nd paper. And then outline the bottom of the lid on your 3rd piece of paper and cut out. You can make these any width size you choose. Glue the 3 pieces of paper together. BUT do NOT glue them to the lid!Step 5: Decorate the lid with your teachers name.Step 6: Fill the craft box with all your goodies. I threw in some chocolate candies. Step 7: Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to wrap around the craft box and tie in a bow. Once you do this… wrap it around the box and tie into a bow. :)Step 8: Now glue your paper over the ribbon. You are finished!

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

I made these for Mason’s Pajama Day and even though they tasted good, I still felt the recipe needed a little more tweaking. So I went back home and after 3 batches, I think I’ve finally mastered my Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin Recipe! Let me know what you think. :)

1egg

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

3 ripe bananas

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup wheat flour

1 cup flour

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Mix (on a low setting) together egg, both sugars, vanilla yogurt, and bananas in a large mixing bowl. Next add your baking soda and baking powder. If you are using a KitchenAid, change your attachment to the flat beater. Then add the wheat and regular flour in on a low speed. If you are not using a KitchenAid, fold these remain ingredients in with a large wooden spoon. Last add your chocolate chips. Bake on 350 for about 21 minutes or until a toothpick comes clean from the center. Makes approx. 18 muffins.

Maple Dijon Chicken

This recipe was YUMMY! I found it over at A Year of Slow Cooking. Even though three out of our five family members like sweet potatoes, I think next time I’ll make this dish with red potatoes. Then again, I’m one of the three that likes sweet potatoes so maybe the two that don’t care for them need to zip it. Just sayin’. :)

2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast

1 can chicken broth

2 large sweet potatoes (peeled and chopped)

1 onion (chopped)

1 tbsp dijon mustard

2 tbsp 100% maple syrup

6 cloves garlic (minced)

4 bay leaves

2 tsp rosemary herb seasoning

Rinse and pat dry chicken breast, cut any extra fat off. In a mixing bowl combine chicken, dijon mustard, maple syrup, garlic, and seasonings. Place the bay leaves on the bottom of your Crock Pot and then pour in your chicken mixture. Next pour in the chicken broth around the outside of the pot, trying not to rinse the coated chicken. Last, toss in the onions and sweet potatoes. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. There should be enough “sauce” left to pour over brown rice.

Two kids in school, means two different Mother’s Day parties. And luckily they were on two different days! Even though I’ve gone to the preschool party with Mason the past two years, this was the first year I got to attend with Cody. Same teacher, same songs different child = A totally different experience. Cody had a grin from ear to ear the whole time of his program, he seemed to be beaming with pride. And so was I!

Mason’s school had a Mother’s Day Tea Party and to my surprise it was actually a tea party. The kids made us Mothers Day bonnets and we were served tea out of fancy teapots into saucers. The whole works! Of course I was the mom drinking an energy drink, but whatever. :)

It’s Been Awhile…

OMG! I can’t believe I haven’t blogged in almost 20 days! I think that’s the longest I’ve gone since I’ve started blogging. These past few weeks have been SOOO hectic with my half marathon, multiple Mother’s Day parties, baseball, field trips, and Vegas. Yes, you read right, VEGAS! I suppose I have a lot to write about. LOL. Lets see where to start….

Parkway Half Marathon did not turn out as well as I was planning. I don’t know if I didn’t train hard enough, if it was to close in between races, the weather was warm, my knee pain, or if it was just an off day for me. All I know is this, I crossed the finish line at a time I am not proud of.

Of course I’m proud that I finished, but I am the type of person that is very hard on myself if I don’t accomplish the goals I set. And the bottom line is, I did not accomplish my goal time. I was very upset with myself after the race. And for a few days after I kept replaying the day over to try and figure out what went wrong.

Nothing ever stuck out to me on what I needed to change or needed to add. So I guess it’s just back to running and fitting in more speed work through out the week. Perhaps next race I won’t set a certain time so I don’t feel so much pressure on race day. But then again, I’m an Aries, I’m way to competitive not to do that. ;)

Cody, what happened to your ear?

It finally happened. Our first trip to the ER with one of our children. I just knew Cody would be our first child having us make the trip and of course I was right. DUH! When I got to the ER I asked him what had happened (i was at work when i got the call from adam) and this is what he told me….

Me: Cody, what in the world happened to your ear?

Cody: Nothing. It’s just bleeding.

Me: You must have done something to make it bleed.

Cody: No, Tay Tay did it. (fyi, baby girl was napping)

Then there was this…

Me: Cody, how did your ear open up like that?

Cody: I don’t know.

Me: What do you mean you don’t know? You have a hole in your ear.

Cody: I just don’t know.

Of course there was this one…

Me: Cody, please tell me what happened.

Cody: I was feeding Tigger.

Me: Daddy said you were in your room. Bubba found you there.

Cody: I was feeding Tigger on my dresser.

Me: Why were you feeding Tigger on your dresser?

Cody: Cause he was hungry.

Me: Ok, so what happened to your ear?

Cody: I don’t think I know. ~long pause~ Tigger did it!

BUT, here is the best one…

Me: Cody, I really need to know what happened before the doctors come in.

Cody: A stranger did it.

Me: Where did the stranger come from?

Cody: The strangers house. ~UGH, smartass~

Me: How did he get into our house?

Cody: He came down through my window.

Me: But, how did you get the whole in your ear?

Cody: The stranger cut me with his knife. Then I took the knife and poked him in the belly. He died.

Me: If there was really a stranger, and if he died, where is he’s body?

Cody: I put him in the trash can and locked it up. Don’t worry mom he won’t get out. It won’t happen again.

Me: ~sigh~ Good to know. ~headshake~

And there you have it! An hour in the ER and we still don’t know what really happened. I’m starting to think he’s going to be the next Stephen King.

I don’t know if it has to do with the crappy weather. Or that my knee has been aching the past week and I have the Parkway Half Marathon this weekend. Maybe it’s because I never got the memo Mason’s school changed the field trip date and he missed it today. Perhaps it has to do with Taylor and all her yelling she feels is necessary. Which is now leading to me having a headache. Could be because my carpets are dirty and my steam cleaner is in the shop. Or that there is never enough time in the day to shorten my project list. For all I know I could be pregnant. Ok, it’s not that, just wanted to see if you were still reading all my complaining. ;) Bottom line, I’m in a funk and I don’t like it!! GO AWAY FUNK!!

Pork Chops

Mondays always seem to be a frantic day for me. When Monday rolls around I never feel like I got enough checked off my list during the weekend. Which leads to me feeling rushed to finish before going to work. So needless to say, Monday night dinners normally don’t get a lot of thought put into them. BUT, pretty much anything that goes into my Crock Pot comes out tasting yummy anyways. :)

2 cans cream of mushroom soup

5 or 6 boneless pork chops

chopped carrots (just depends on how much you want)

seasoning (i used a greek seasoning)

~ Season both sides of your pork chops and leave on plate. Pour in both cans of soup and spread along the bottom of your Crock Pot. Next, arrange your pork chops over the cream of mushroom soup. Then place carrots around the outside of your dish. Cook for 6 hours on low. Serve with a side of brown rice or green salad.
